Homelessness in Bundaberg

For those who grew up in Bundaberg it is clear the homelessness problem has gotten significantly worse.

There are mattresses in the main street and people camped out in the Bundaberg Library’s garden.

The main street now includes beggars with their hats out for money and men pushing trolleys full of their belongings.

This is not the Bundaberg I remember from growing up here.

The council and both state, Tom Smith, and federal, David Batt, MPs don’t seem to have a solution to this growing problem.

Maybe it has always been bad and I’m just noticing it more.

However, serious action is needed to help people put a roof over their heads.

The solution for Bundaberg is a worker’s democracy, also known as socialism.

Nobody should be left on the street to fend for themselves.

We are a rich society and a rich agricultural region with plenty of goods and resources to go round.

A lucky country, and a lucky regional city in Bundaberg, should not be experiencing these deprivations.

No doubt homelessness is related to other social problems such as drug abuse, domestic violence and alcohol consumption.

These issues are not so big that we as a community cannot tackle them if we work together!
